Eocene Green River Sedge(?) Flower
Undescribed Sedge family Cyperaceae(?)
Green River Formation
Middle Eocene
Lincoln County, Wyoming
This specimen may represent the flower of an undescribed example of a Green River Formation sedge of the family Cyperaceae. There is a carbonized body with wispy tendrils extending outwards reminiscent of living sedges which are a grass-like plant with triangular stems and inconspicuous flowers, growing typically in wet ground. Sedges are widely distributed throughout temperate and cold regions.
