Here is a rare example of a fossilized dragonfly from the 18 in layer quarries. The body is over 2 inches long. The body has good detail and the eyes and legs are visible. The wing venation is vague. Overall it is a good example for this uncommon fossil.

Dragonflies are represented in the Green River Formation by the family Libellulidae. This family today has over 1,000 living species. Spectacular specimens of dragonflies are very rare in the formation but have been found. None have been scientifically described or named. Dragonfly nymphs are also occasionally found.
